Blur 'N' Feather is a complete Gaussian Blur solution for trueSpace.
Traditionally, blurring an object in trueSpace (eg: to create
a smoke/fire effect from a particle stream) was a three step process.
It wasn't possible to realistically blur a single object in a scene since
the object mask supplied by trueSpace has a sharp edge and causes the
blurred object to stand out (see second image below).
To work around this required the user to
first render the scene without the particles. Then re-render the scene
with all objects turned black except the particles. Finally, blur the entire
particle scene (either in trueSpace with a blur filter or elsewhere)
and composite it over the original scene.
Blur 'N' Feather can be used to reduce this process to a single step by
expanding and feathering the mask provided by trueSpace before blurring the
object. In
this way, the blur will blend in with the surrounding scene and no
post-processing is required (third image below). Since many particle systems
end up as fire balls or flames, Blur 'N' Feather can also 'burn' a colour-map
into the blurred image. This is usually a 'flame' colour-map, however
Blur 'N' Feather allows other colour ranges as well.

Blur 'N' Feather is available as an Adobe Photoshop 4 filter for trueSpace
3.1 and 3.2. Note, though this is a Photoshop filter, it does not operate
in Photoshop or any other plugin host I have tried. This filter is designed
for trueSpace only, if you use another host please test the free version
out first to ensure Blur 'N' Feather will function correctly.
Free Version
The free version of Blur 'N' Feather is a cut down version of the commercial
one. Most notably, parameters cannot be saved in the free version. However,
all effects seen on this page can be acheived with the free version of Blur
'N' Feather. Click here it see it's dialog. The

trueSpace 4
Currently there is only a free, cut-down version of Blur 'N' Feather for
trueSpace 4.1 and above. This version is a Post-process shader which can only
be applied to an entire scene at once, there are no object masks. It is
functionally identical to the free Photoshop Filter, except without mask
operations.
Free version 1.01: Blur 'N' Feather free for trueSpace 4 has been updated to
version 1.01. This fixes a major error in colour burning. The update can be
downloaded below.
The commercial version for trueSpace 4 is in progress and should appear some
time in the near future.
Inside trueSpace
Also available is Blur 'N' Feather, Inside trueSpace edition.
This special version was created for the book,
Inside
trueSpace by Frank Rivera. This version was made during Blur 'N'
Feather's development and is missing the Burn function. A patch will be
released soon to update this version.

page for US$25. Currently, Blur 'N' Feather commercial only supports trueSpace
3. It is not supported under any other plugin host including Photoshop itself.
